I am curious about events on 1st of May. Are the requirements different, and is that dealt with automatically when using the tool?
Hi,
Great question! The formal permit requirements for May 1st don’t change — the same rules apply as for any other event. That said, it’s worth knowing that the administration will likely take the heightened activity across the city into account when reviewing your application. This means they may look at your chosen location in the context of other events happening nearby and decide whether the combined intensity in that area is manageable. So location choice matters a bit more on that day.
On a related note: the evening before (April 30th) benefits from extended exemptions from noise restrictions until midnight, which may be relevant depending on your planning. You can find more details here: Berlin will länger feiern | HÄRTING Rechtsanwälte
Raumsonde won’t handle any of this automatically — but it will help you identify your location, understand the relevant permits, and prepare your application as usual. If you have concerns about competition for space on that day, it’s worth getting your application in early.
One more thing worth knowing from last year’s experience: a number of events took place in Berlin’s green spaces on May 1st without permits. Police and Ordnungsamt were generally tolerant, but organisers were asked to stop their events in some cases — and the common factor seemed to be petrol-based generators. Organisers using electric power sources appeared to fare significantly better with the authorities on the day.
So if you’re planning to run without a permit, or even just as good practice, using an electric power source rather than a petrol generator could make a real difference to how your event is received on the day.
Happy to help further if you have more questions!
